827653 MS03-035: Flaw in Microsoft Word Could Enable Macros to Run Automatically

The Word 2002 Security Patch: KB824934 fixes the following issues that were previously not documented in the Microsoft Knowledge Base.

WD2002: Word cannot perform a second mail merge in a single Word session

When you use Word to interface with a document management system (DMS) and you try to perform multiple mail merge operations, you can merge records from the text data source the first time, but you cannot merge the records a second time during the same Word session.

INCLUDETEXT field in an e-mailed Word document may include text from a different file

When you return a Word document that contains an INCLUDETEXT field in an e-mail when Word is your e-mail editor, the contents of a different file on your computer may be included in the returned Word document.

Start of paragraph is overprinted

When you print a document with the Automatically hyphenate document feature turned on, the end of the last paragraph may overprint the start of the paragraph.

WD2002: The Mail Merge function does not merge all the characters in the data source

When you use the Mail Merge function in Word 2002, some of the extended characters may be lost or replaced with a blank space, such as character code 0172 (the nonbreaking space).

WD2002: The changes are not applied if your last change is a font change if you press CTRL + Y to repeat an action

When you press the CTRL + Y key combination to repeat an action in Word 2002, the change is not applied to the selected line of text if the last change is a font change or a font size change.

Word stops responding when you paste a selection as RTF into other programs

When you copy a large selection of text and tehn paste the text as Rich Text Format (RTF) into another program, Word may stop responding.

WD2000: Error message when you try to close open messages

If you have several messages open from a personal folders (.pst) file in Outlook 2000, and you have Word as your e-mail editor, you receive the following error message, and Word 2000 or Outlook 2000 may stop responding when you try to close each open message by clicking the "X" button at the upper right corner of the message:

There is insufficient memory or disk space. Word cannot display the requested font

Word is slow when iterating through Paragraphs collection in a mail merge document

A Word 2002 Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) routine that steps through the Paragraphs collection of a document runs very slowly when a mail merge data source is attached to the document.

Word document opened in Microsoft Internet Explorer may quit unexpectedly

When you click the Back button in Internet Explorer, Word may quit unexpectedly. This problem may occur when your Word 2002 document opened in Internet Explorer contains ActiveX controls (textboxes).

Long comments may be truncated or may not be shown completely in the ScreenTip

When you pause your mouse pointer over a comment in a Microsoft Word document, one of the following problems may occur:

  • A portion of the comment may appear in the comment ScreenTip.
  • The comment may not appear in the comment ScreenTip.

Directory mail merge into a table causes table to be corrupted

When you perform a directory mail merge into a table using a text file, the table in the directory mail merge may be damaged when the data source contains carriage returns.

Hyperlinks inserted in RTF e-mail message appear merged together

When you use Microsoft Word as your E-mail Editor in Microsoft Outlook, if you insert multiple attachments as hyperlinks in a Rich Text Format (RTF) e-mail message, the attachments (hyperlinks) do not appear separated. Instead, the hyperlinks appear merged together.

When you print a document containing a NUMPAGES field, the NUMPAGES field is not updated and may print the result of the field with an incorrect value. This problem may occur when the following conditions are all true:

  • The Update fields option on the Print tab (on the Tools menu, click Options) is turned on.
  • A header in the document contains an INCLUDEPICTURE, EMBED or LINK field.
  • The INCLUDEPICTURE, EMBED or LINK field is in-line with text.
  • You delete text, therefore reducing the number of pages contained in your document, and then you print the document.

Zip code/postal code is missing when you merge with Microsoft Outlook Contacts

When you do a mail merge and use Outlook Contacts as your data source, the zip code or postal code may not merge when you use the address block merge field.
