SYMPTOMS
When you try to run a Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) statement on a Microsoft Windows 2000-based computer that has Windows 2000 Service Pack 3 or later installed, the process that runs the statement may stop responding.
For example, if the WMI statement is called by a script, the script stops responding.
CAUSE
This problem may occur when you try to run a WMI statement that is similar to the following:
SELECT * from Win32_share WHERE (name = 'c$')
This problem occurs when you run a WMI statement that is similar to the example because WMI makes many calls to the GetEffectiveRightsFromAcl function.
