APPLIES TO

  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Server
  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional Edition
  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Advanced Server

SYMPTOMS

When you run a Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) query on a Microsoft Windows 2000-based computer, the query may function much slower than expected. When you view a list of processes that are running on your computer, one or more instances of the Llsmgr.exe process may exist. Sometimes, the Llsmgr.exe process may cause you to receive a "System is running low on virtual memory" error message and you may have to restart your computer.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because the Llsmgr.exe process cannot register with DCOM within the required timeout period. Subsequently, a new Microsoft Component Object Model (COM) object may be created for the Llsmgr.exe process that creates additional instances of that process.
