I noticed you got Moderator rank, any idea on how I could possibly apply for it? --User:WILSON2bGg

Please ask Andy, though I think it's unlikely you'll get it for now. X010 (talk) 20:44, 17 March 2019 (GMT)
Why do you think it would be unlikely for me? --WILSON2bGg

Moving

Hello X010, I need to ask if normal users like me can redirect the page. And if I can, where can I find the option? --ToMi (talk) 18:28, 4 April 2019 (BST)

@ToMi Anyone can redirect a page. Just replace the current content with #REDIRECT [[redirect location]]. X010 (talk) 17:30, 4 April 2019 (BST)
@X010 OK, thanks very much.--ToMi (talk) 18:33, 4 April 2019 (BST)

Deleting

Hello X010, I need to ask if normal users like me can delete the page? --ToMi (talk) 19:29, 10 April 2019 (BST)

Hi @ToMi, unfortunately you cannot delete pages at this time, but you can tag one for deletion using the template {{delete|your reason}}. X010 (talk) 19:11, 11 April 2019 (BST)

Moving pages to new namescheme

I have started moving pages to the new software name/full buildtag name system. I want to try to move them without a redirect, so can you possibly make me a mover? --SebOno (Let's have a talk!) (Sandbox) et'sLay xpandeay hetay etaArchiveBay ikiway! 15:01, 13 April 2019 (BST)

If done, leave the {{Done}} template above this message. If not done, please state why.

@SebOno Yes check.svg.png Done. The Mover right also allows you to delete pages, which you can use to delete the redirects you created previously. X010 (talk) 16:17, 13 April 2019 (BST)
@X010 Wow, thanks! I am enjoying editing this wiki and having the mover right. Once again, thank you! --SebOno (Let's have a talk!) (Sandbox) et'sLay xpandeay hetay etaArchiveBay ikiway! 15:10, 16 April 2019 (BST)

mover and uploader

I want to move pages into new naming scheme. Also can you upload this pciture as Placeholder.png ? Thanks.--MCpillager - remember, a build list is just a lot of numbers. 17:16, 17 April 2019 (BST)

@MCpillager Not done for both. The BetaArchive logo (Mainpagetempimage2.png) should be fine for placeholder images (a similar placeholder file was deleted for this reason). As for the mover right, you were automatically autoconfirmed today, and hence you can upload files and move pages (with a redirect). I'd like to see some experience moving pages under a redirect before giving the mover right to you. X010 (talk) 18:30, 17 April 2019 (BST)
@X010 Mainpagetempimage2.png looks ugly to me.--MCpillager - remember, a build list is just a lot of numbers. 07:40, 18 April 2019 (BST)
@MCpillager Why? Is it due to the low resolution? X010 (talk) 09:49, 18 April 2019 (BST)
@X010 yes.--MCpillager - remember, a build list is just a lot of numbers. 09:43, 19 April 2019 (BST)
@MCpillager Well, it seems that we don't have a better quality image of the BA logo. Not sure which is better - @WILSON2bGg @SebOno @Mibrab - what are your thoughts on which image to use? X010 (talk) 15:16, 19 April 2019 (BST)
@X010 I suggest we stick with the current one. MCpillager's one looks too much like the BetaWiki one. --SebOno (Let's have a talk!) (Sandbox) et'sLay xpandeay hetay etaArchiveBay ikiway! 15:19, 19 April 2019 (BST)
@SebOno It looks too much like the BetaWiki one because it is ripped straight from BetaWiki (see the link). In my opinion, the old placeholder image is probably the best we have for now, but really anything with a transparent background would work. The best idea would probably be to do something based on the wiki logo. --Mibrab (talk) 22:41, 19 April 2019 (BST)

Thank you - Mover group

Thank you very much, X010. --ToMi (talk) 10 April 2019, 11:12 (BST)

Community portal

Can you add the Community portal to the navigation bar?--MCpillager - remember, a build list is just a lot of numbers. 17:08, 26 April 2019 (BST)

@MCpillager Yes check.svg.png Done to the existing area in the wiki. While I liked your idea, the design does look like one which has been taken straight from BetaWiki and hence will require some community input. X010 (talk) 17:15, 26 April 2019 (BST)

Applegame12345

Can you make him a mover? I've seen his contribs on BetaWiki and they are good.--MCpillager - remember, a build list is just a lot of numbers. 12:37, 27 April 2019 (BST)

@MCpillager X mark.png Not done No, he needs to wait one week and have ten edits to be able to move pages in the first place. This is not something that I can override. X010 (talk) 13:19, 27 April 2019 (BST)

Import

Hello X010, can you import the Ambox from MediaWiki please? ToMi (talk) 17:32, 3 May 2019 (BST)

Yes check.svg.png Done @ToMi Imported as Template:Bmbox from wikibooks:Template:Bmbox and not Mediawiki due to the latter's complexity. A bit of cleanup work might be needed (in particular, you should upload the images manually), and also take care of Template:Bmbox/core, which does most of the hard work. Please let me know if there are any issues. X010 (talk) 17:43, 3 May 2019 (BST)

@MCpillager Why do we need that template? Wouldn't the usual <ref> tags do?
(Aside: VisualEditor is not on the wiki due to its complexity in installing. But I personally like it, and if I'm right, mobile browsers will use a different editor anyway.) X010 (talk) 10:17, 6 May 2019 (BST)

@MCpillager I know that, but why is he telling all this nonsense? Also, I don't know "sonicrideruser". X010 (talk) 13:05, 6 May 2019 (BST)

@MCpillager It should be possible, but that would require additional customisation (i.e, it's not straightforward). I might think about it later. X010 (talk) 10:04, 8 May 2019 (BST)

@MCpillager You cannot make assumptions without technical proof. If you have further evidence, please submit it through a PM on the forum rather than public on the wiki. X010 (talk) 12:30, 10 May 2019 (BST)
@MCpillager First, do you have any actual proof for your claims? As X010 said above, you can't just make assumptions like this because they used the same swear word. Hint: millions of people use the word dipshit worldwide. Second, considering this is more of a BetaWiki matter, I am not really sure why do you bring this up with a BetaArchive Wiki administrator, who can't really do anything with this gossip, instead of contacting either me or ovctvct. @MCpillager The official guidance I have received from mrpijey says that we should only cover builds which are known to exist (also see the Wiki Guidelines), and fakes can only be covered under some conditions. It was not my decision to do this. X010 (talk) 15:53, 10 May 2019 (BST)

@Nitropurple5431 Not sure what you mean, I was referring to signing whenever you make a comment; that's required. X010 (talk) 09:30, 20 May 2020 (BST)

@X010 Are you THAT dumb?!? I mean is “Are you supposed to add your talk page?” Nitropurple5431

@Nitropurple5431 I might be missing something simple, but I still don't get what you mean by “Are you supposed to add your talk page?”. If you could clarify that further that'd be much appreciated. (And giving some respect to other users). X010 (talk) 16:57, 20 May 2020 (BST)
YES YOU ARE @X010 YOU ARE MISSING SOMETHING SIMPLE AND THAT, IS, TO BREAK IT DOWN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Nitropurple5431
@Nitropurple5431 I still don't get it - are you saying that my talk page is too long? X010 (talk) 20:58, 20 May 2020 (BST)
what no (sorry if I responded late, edit conflicts) Nitropurple5431
@Nitropurple5431 - I don't think there was an edit conflict. But I can't figure out what you are trying to say. What does "break it down" mean? If I means linking to your talk, then yes; use ~~~~ . X010 (talk) 21:08, 20 May 2020 (BST)
Yeah there were,lol @X010 Nitropurple5431
And the second?, Just figure it out, dumbo @X010 Nitropurple5431
@Nitropurple5431, look I could be thinking differently, make some effort to help instead of needlessly talking nonsense. I also urge you to show some respect instead of using language such as "dumbo". X010 (talk) 09:20, 21 May 2020 (BST)
@Nitropurple5431 I don't know what you're trying to do on this wiki, but stop this vandalism or you get blocked. ToMi (talk) 13:23, 21 May 2020 (BST)

Unas cuantas preguntas (Some questions)

Please translate this message from spanish to english because I'm from Peru.

Estimado X010 , tengo unas cuantas preguntas sobre BetaArchivo (BetaArchive)

Gracias y saludos

Hi @MedioWiki, I don't speak Spanish, but here are your answers:

For Q1 from the admin "My reply would be that these are our rules and we don't allow them any tools circumventing protections or personal licenses. Our purpose is to provide the media, not to allow you to run outdated and use outdated software with pirated licenses. we provide the software and preserve the artwork. But we don't distribute any licenses or tools to bypass them."
For Q2, no, this is an English language wiki. X010 (talk) 20:21, 28 May 2020 (BST)

Import request

Hi,
I have a question if we can import this template: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Template:Disambiguation. ToMi1 (talk | contribs) 18:22, 27 July 2020 (BST)

@ToMi I looked at one of your "disambiguation" pages, and have to question whether that's really needed. Because we don't have a lot of articles to begin with, and I personally do not see the need to make things complicated. X010 (talk) 19:39, 27 July 2020 (BST)

Importing

Hello, I'm not copy-pasting from Wikipedia. Some years ago I personally wrote most of article "Sviluppo di Windows Vista" on the Italian Wikipedia (please check the history if you want). Now I want to remove some information because the article is too long and includes too many details; I think the article should be cleaner. Before removing those parts of text from Wikipedia, I would like to transfer them to this wiki, so that the information are not lost; I'm also translating from Italian to English.--CassiodoroVicinetti (talk) 13:17, 21 September 2020 (BST)

@CassiodoroVicinetti Thanks for the clarification. This is acceptable, however do be explicit that you wrote the article so that I can understand that it's your work. (the problem is that we do have users that try to copy from BetaWiki and other such sites without realising that attribution is required). BTW: which username did you use on it.wikipedia? X010 (talk) 13:20, 21 September 2020 (BST)
@ToMi want to draw your attention to this. Don't remove any of his material without first explicitly checking with me. X010 (talk) 13:21, 21 September 2020 (BST)
Sorry, my username on Wikipedia is "Luca Ghio". OK, I'll be explicit that I wrote the article. Thank you.--CassiodoroVicinetti (talk) 13:27, 21 September 2020 (BST)

Copy-pasting from Wikipedia as a starting point

Hello. I would like to copy-paste the contents of the Wikipedia article on WinFS to this wiki's version. The Wikipedia article says at the bottom, "Text is available under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike License; additional terms may apply." I assume therefore that a full-copy paste is permissible, with an acknowledgment that the text was forked from Wikipedia as of the date of forking. But would like to know your thoughts first. Thank you. - Emir214 (talk) 04:06, 12 March 2021 (GMT)

@Emir214 It is definitely allowed, however, this is normally achieved by importing the article from Wikipedia, which I can do for you if you want. X010 (talk) 07:15, 12 March 2021 (GMT)
@X010 Yes, please do. Thank you very much. - Emir214 (talk) 23:02, 14 March 2021 (GMT)
@Emir214 Yes check.svg.png Done, it's at User:Emir214/WinFS, where you can improve the article and then move it back into where it should be. For images, you can directly upload them yourself (attributing the source, that is, where you got it from). X010 (talk) 07:28, 15 March 2021 (GMT)
@X010 Thank you very much. - Emir214 (talk) 10:56, 15 March 2021 (GMT)

Reporting Wiki glitches

Hello. The wiki seems to be using the Monobook design by default, instead of Vector. Also, Template:Citation/core, which I copied from Wikipedia for use in User:Emir214/WinFS. is showing code which should not be visible in the template page. - Emir214 (talk) 11:22, 21 March 2021 (GMT)

@Emir214 This is temporary, we're upgrading the wiki. X010 (talk) 11:28, 21 March 2021 (GMT)
@Emir214 The Template issue should be fixed, the rest will be done in a short while. X010 (talk) 11:49, 21 March 2021 (GMT)
@Emir214 Should be fixed, let me know if there are any more issues in the wiki. P.S: for the record, during the upgrade, we switched to the Vector skin (not Monobook as you mentioned). The default forum skin is actually Chameleon. X010 (talk) 19:42, 21 March 2021 (GMT)
@X010 Thanks, everything is working fine now. - Emir214 (talk) 11:11, 23 March 2021 (GMT)

Citation needed template

Hello, can the citation needed template be added? I understood that it already comes with MediaWiki, but I can't seem to use it. -- ATeamInc (talk) 21:22, 1 May 2021 (BST)

@ATeamInc Yes check.svg.png Done It actually does not come with MediaWiki as you mention; it's just a template that needed to be imported from English Wikipedia. See Template:Citation needed. X010 (talk) 09:07, 2 May 2021 (BST)
Oh, okay thanks a lot. ATeamInc (talk) 10:54, 2 May 2021 (BST)
@X010 something has changed with the template. It's rendering text after it as code. ATeamInc (talk) 12:54, 2 May 2021 (BST)
@ATeamInc This should be fixed now. X010 (talk) 13:35, 2 May 2021 (BST)
Thanks, it's working now.

Special:Upload using Source URL from BA not working

Hello. I tried uploading a file by using "Source URL", pasting the address https://www.betaarchive.com/imageupload/2017-12/1514188900.or.77027.PNG from this thread. It leads to the following errors:

Error fetching URL: SSL certificate problem: unable to get local issuer certificate
There was a problem during the HTTP request: 0 Error Emir214 (talk) 23:59, 29 May 2021 (BST)

@Emir214 This is a known bug - currently the URL upload works only for HTTP sites (that is, insecure). You'll have to manually download/upload for now; I'll let you know if we manage to fix this. X010 (talk) 07:25, 30 May 2021 (BST)
@Emir214 That bug has been fixed - try again. X010 (talk) 18:59, 8 June 2021 (BST)
It works now. Thanks. - Emir214 (talk) 10:18, 8 April 2022 (BST)

Admin request

Can I please become an admin on this wiki? I made the good edits and contributing really well.

Just checking... Bubblebeam (will be renamed to Uncle Captain on May 16) (talk) 02:47, 7 January 2022 (GMT)

@Bubblebeam Hi, no, because I don't think you have the experience required to become one. You aren't even an helper after all. If there is something you want to do that is only available as part of admin, let me know what that is. X010 (talk) 06:00, 7 January 2022 (GMT)

User name rename request

Can you please rename me from “Bubblebeam” to “Uncle Captain” on BetaArchive Wiki and BetaArchive? Because I am starting to not like my current one anymore. Thanks. Bubblebeam (will be renamed to Uncle Captain on May 16) (talk) 22:34, 24 April 2022 (BST)

@Bubblebeam I can't. The reason is that forum policy prohibits changing usernames (otherwise I would have changed mine a long time back!), unless Andy or mrpijey decides to give an exemption, which is extremely rare from my experience. X010 (talk) 10:39, 25 April 2022 (BST)

#dateformat: template

I understand that {{#dateformat: }} is supposed to standardize dates. I saw it in use here. Should we adopt {{#dateformat: }} for the whole wiki? - Emir214 (talk) 03:48, 8 May 2022 (BST)

@Emir214 I wasn't aware of this before - and it's a magic word (and not a template). Personally, I don't mind if you use it for the whole wiki, but don't think it's high-priority either. X010 (talk) 08:35, 9 May 2022 (BST)

Request for importing from Wikipedia

Please import the articles on Windows Movie Maker and Active Directory from Wikipedia, similar to the WinFS draft from 2021. Thank you very much. - Emir214 (talk) 13:24, 13 October 2023 (BST)

@Emir214, that's done. You can see the imported pages in Recent changes. X010 (talk) 13:37, 13 October 2023 (BST)

Importing Windows screenshots from similar sites

Is it permissible to upload here Windows screenshots from The Collection Book, GUIdebook, or the BetaWiki? - Emir214 (talk) 12:03, 14 October 2023 (BST)

Hi @Emir214, yes you can, but you need to follow attribution rules as usual (for example importing - let me know if you want to import and I'll give you the necessary rights). X010 (talk) 12:44, 14 October 2023 (BST)
Hi, X010. Thank you very much. Not yet for now. - Emir214 (talk) 12:48, 14 October 2023 (BST)

@Emir214, that's odd - I can't seem to reproduce this. Can you try on a private window and see if this still happens? X010 (talk) 15:15, 19 October 2023 (BST)
Yes, it happens on a private window. - Emir214 (talk) 04:29, 20 October 2023 (BST)
Error is gone now in my usual browser (non-private). - Emir214 (talk) 08:09, 20 October 2023 (BST)
And the error is back. It does not appear for edits that take a short time to make (example: correcting a typo or reference error). It appears for edits that take a longer time to make. - Emir214 (talk) 08:38, 20 October 2023 (BST)
@Emir214 Since when did this issue occur? X010 (talk) 08:54, 20 October 2023 (BST)
Yesterday - Emir214 (talk) 11:47, 20 October 2023 (BST)
@Emir214, thanks - let me know if that happens again. X010 (talk) 12:13, 20 October 2023 (BST)

Convenient Discussions

Hi there. So, your wiki uses a non-official Chameleon skin which has some peculiarities that make some UI elements of CD look wrong. I fixed the worst issues and left the rest as is (because I can't adapt the script for every skin existent). As for the icons, that's my bad (I hardcoded /w path in the icons' URLs while you have /wiki). Fixed this as well. Contact me if you see other problems.

P.S. In CD, you can use "@" (and then select the user) instead of {{ping}} to ping users btw. JWBTH (talk) 14:15, 22 October 2023 (BST)

@Emir214, can I ask what you plan to do with it (give an example)? X010 (talk) 06:30, 6 November 2023 (GMT)
To rename the parameter "compiled" to "compile_date" in Template:Infobox_Buildinfo, and therefore in all build pages where the infobox uses "compiled". Also to rename "tcb_link" to "tcb", and "betawiki_link" to "betawiki" in the same infobox (and in the infoboxes of all build pages using that parameter), to be consistent with the "database" parameter. - Emir214 (talk) 06:34, 6 November 2023 (GMT)
@Emir214, done - you should now be able to access Special:ReplaceText. X010 (talk) 06:41, 6 November 2023 (GMT)
