This build, leaked on July 21, 2006,<ref>[https://www.webcitation.org/61G23u96U?url=http://winjade.net/board/index.php?showtopic=4864# Longhorn 4011 Leaked]</ref> is not much different from Build 4008, although by this point, virtually all references to Windows XP had been removed, including the old boot screen, which was now replaced by the actual Longhorn boot screen. The copy of this build that is widely available has a corrupt INSTALL.WIM, and as such, will not install properly, due to the damaged portion being the WinPE (Windows Preinstallation Environment). Betaarchive user ovctvct made a repack of 4011 that can be used to install Build 4011.

Windows "Longhorn" build 4011 (with a build tag of 4011.main.030305-2045) is a build of the Microsoft Windows "Longhorn" operating system. Compiled on 5 March 2003, it leaked on 21[1] July 2006.[2] This build is similar to build 4008.[2]

Main changes

  • a new logo in the boot screen[3] (see Gallery)
  • Desktop Composition Engine (DCE) can be enabled with the command rundll32 uxdesk.dll,DCEStart.[2] DCE only generates a transparency effect on windows and the Start menu[4][2] (see #Gallery)
  • "Move sidebar and taskbar" window to change the layout of the sidebar and the taskbar[2] (see #Gallery)
  • "Extended Tiles" view mode (published in Windows Vista and Windows 7 as "Content")[2] (see #Gallery)
  • redesigned window showing options when plugging in a removable disk (see #Gallery)
  • "Setup Synchronization" to sync files through USB (see #Gallery)

The leaked ISO is bootable, but the installer does not unpack files. A workaround is to install the build from build 3706.[2]
