Microsoft Windows 98 (codenamed Memphis) was released to manufacturing on May 15, 1998. It is the successor to Windows 95.

Builds 1410 to 1423 contained references to both "Windows 97" and "Windows 98", in addition to "Memphis".[1]

The redesigned setup is internally called "Red Carpet".[2]
