Unable to get video memory size from DirectDraw

You may receive this error message if Windows cannot identify the type of graphics adapter that is installed on the computer. To resolve this issue, contact the computer or graphics hardware manufacturer to determine the type of graphics adaptor that is installed. Obtain and then install the latest version of the driver for your graphics hardware. For information about how to contact your hardware manufacturer, see the References section. For information about how to download the latest drivers by using the Microsoft Windows Update Web site, see the Additional information section.

or

Your graphics driver is not valid for your operating system. Please contact your graphics adaptor vendor for an updated driver. Zoo Tycoon 2 was unable to create a graphics renderer. Please contact your graphics adaptor vendor to make sure you have the latest driver.

To resolve this issue, contact your graphics hardware manufacturer to obtain and to install the latest version of the driver for your graphics hardware. For information about how to contact your hardware manufacturer, see the References section. To see whether applicable driver updates are available, visit the following Microsoft Windows Update Web site:

For information about how to download the latest drivers by using the Windows Update Web site, see the Additional information section. Drivers are small programs that enable the operating system to communicate with the hardware in the computer. A driver acts as a translator between your hardware and the operating system. It is very important to update your video card drivers because new drivers are created for many reasons. A new driver for your video card can enable the video card to use the video card features more efficiently. Additionally, having the current drivers will improve game performance. The video card lets you see graphics on the computer screen. Generally, companies release their drivers regularly so that the video cards keep pace with the ever-changing software technologies.

Zoo Tycoon 2 was unable to create a graphics renderer. Please contact your graphics adaptor vendor to make sure you have the latest driver.

To resolve this issue, try one or more of the following methods.

Note Windows Vista requires at least 32 MB of graphics adaptor memory. This amount is sufficient to run Zoo Tycoon 2. Also, Windows Vista automatically enables Direct 3D Acceleration if the installed hardware supports it.

  • Upgrade the computer. To do this, install a graphics adaptor that has 16 megabytes (MB) or more of memory. To determine whether the graphics adaptor on your computer has 16 MB or more of memory, follow these steps in Windows XP:
    1. Click Start, click Run, type dxdiag, and then click OK.
    2. On the Display tab, verify that the Approx. Total Memory value is 16 MB or more. The graphics adaptor must have 16 MB of memory for Zoo Tycoon 2 to work correctly. If your graphics adaptor does not have 16 MB of memory, you must upgrade your graphics hardware to run Zoo Tycoon 2.

Note The graphics memory value that appears in the DirectX Diagnostics Tool may be slightly less than the actual total because the DirectX Diagnostics Tool uses some of the graphics memory.
