APPLIES TO
- Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services 3.0
SYMPTOMS
When you schedule manual scans of content in Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 and in Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services 3.0, you cannot disable Microsoft Virus Scanning API (VSAPI) scans.
VSAPI scan settings take precedence over manual scan settings. Therefore, if a VSAPI scan determines that a file is infected, a manual scan cannot access the file and take action on it according to the manual scan settings that are configured for the user.
CAUSE
This problem occurs because the Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 object model does not include an option to disable VSAPI scans.
RESOLUTION
How to obtain the hotfix
This issue is fixed in the Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 Hotfix Package that is dated April 12, 2007. For more information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
934790 Description of the Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 hotfix package: April 12, 2007
This hotfix package introduces a new flag that is called SkipVirusScan. When you set the SkipVirusScan flag and use it together with the SPFile.OpenBinary method or the SPFile.OpenBinaryStream method, VSAPI lets a file be accessed. Therefore, a manual scan can be performed on the file.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
