SUMMARY

When you try to use the Microsoft Exchange Server 5.5 Administrator program to connect to a Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server computer that is running the Site Replication Service (SRS), you may receive an error message. This article discusses the error message that you may receive and provides a procedure for resolving the issue. The procedure is organized in the following steps:



SYMPTOMS

When the following conditions are true, you may receive an error message:

  • You use the Microsoft Exchange Server 5.5 Administrator program to connect to a Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server computer.
  • The Exchange 2000 computer is running the Site Replication Service (SRS).
  • You are trying to remove the last Exchange Server 5.5 computer from the administrative groups.

The following is the error message that you receive:

Network problems are preventing connection to the Microsoft Exchange server computer. Mapi was unable to load the information service emsabp.dll. Be sure the service is installed and configured

Microsoft Exchange Address book Id no: 00040380-0000-00000000

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, manually remove the Exchange Server 5.5 computer from the administrative groups. To do this, follow these steps.

Step 1: Remove all Exchange 2000 Server computer site connectors from the Exchange Server 5.5 computer

  1. Log on to the Exchange Server 5.5 computer.
  2. Click Start, point to Programs, point to Microsoft Exchange, and then click Microsoft Exchange Administrator.
  3. Type the name of the Exchange Server 5.5 computer in the Connect to Server dialog box, and then click OK.
  4. In the left pane, expand Site Name, and then expand Configuration.
  5. Click Directory Replication.
  6. In the right pane, remove all directory replication connectors.


Important Do not remove the ADNAutoDRC connector if it appears in the Directory Replications Connectors container.

  1. Under Configuration, click Connections.
  2. In the right pane, remove all site connectors.

Step 2: Remove any Exchange Server 5.5 computer site connectors from the Routing Groups container under the Exchange 2000 Server site container

  1. Click Start, point to Programs, point to Microsoft Exchange, and then click System Manager.
  2. In Exchange System Manager, expand Administrative Groups, expand First Administrative Group, expand Routing Groups, expand First Routing Group, and then click Connectors.
  3. In the right pane, remove the Exchange Server 5.5 computer site connectors.

Step 3: Force domain replication to occur so that the Exchange Server 5.5 computer is no longer visible in Exchange System Manager

  1. Click Start, point to Programs, point to Microsoft Exchange, and then click Active Directory Connector.
  2. In the left pane, click Active Directory Connector (Domain).
  3. In the right pane, right-click Config CA, and then click Replicate Now.

Note You can also use the Replmon.exe tool or the Repadmin.exe tool to force directory replication. These tools are included in the Microsoft Windows 2000 Support Tools.

Step 4: Use the ADSI Edit tool to remove the Exchange Server 5.5 computer from the administrative groups

If the Exchange Server 5.5 computer is not removed from the administrative groups after you perform step 3, use the ADSI Edit tool to remove the Exchange Server 5.5 computer from the administrative groups.

Warning If you use the ADSI Edit snap-in, the LDP utility, or any other LDAP version 3 client, and you incorrectly modify the attributes of Active Directory objects, you can cause serious problems. These problems may require you to reinstall Microsoft Windows 2000 Server, Microsoft Windows Server 2003, Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server, Microsoft Exchange Server 2003, or both Windows and Exchange. Microsoft cannot guarantee that problems that occur if you incorrectly modify Active Directory object attributes can be solved. Modify these attributes at your own risk.

  1. Click Start, point to Programs, point to Windows 2000 Support Tools, point to Tools, and then click ADSI Edit.
  2. In the left pane, expand Configuration Container [Domain].
  3. Expand CN=Configuration, DC=Domain Name,DC=com.
  4. Expand CN=Services.
  5. Expand CN=Microsoft Exchange.
  6. Expand CN= Organization Name.
  7. Expand CN=Administrative Groups.
  8. Expand CN= Administrative Group Name or Exchange Server 5.5 Site Name.
  9. Expand CN=Servers.
  10. Right-click the Exchange Server 5.5 object, and then click Delete.
  11. Click OK to confirm the deletion.

Step 5: Remove any SRS object that was created

Remove any SRS object that was created between the Exchange 2000 Server computer and the Exchange Server 5.5 computer.

Warning If you use the ADSI Edit snap-in, the LDP utility, or any other LDAP version 3 client, and you incorrectly modify the attributes of Active Directory objects, you can cause serious problems. These problems may require you to reinstall Microsoft Windows 2000 Server, Microsoft Windows Server 2003, Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server, Microsoft Exchange Server 2003, or both Windows and Exchange. Microsoft cannot guarantee that problems that occur if you incorrectly modify Active Directory object attributes can be solved. Modify these attributes at your own risk.

  1. In Exchange System Manager, expand Tools.
  2. Click Site Replication Services.

    When you click Site Replication Services, you might receive the following error message:

    This Site Replication Service is functioning as the bridgehead of one or more directory replication connectors and cannot be deleted.

    If you receive this error message, click OK, and then remove the Dsamain object under the SRS server. To do this, follow these steps:

    1. Click Start, point to Programs, point to Windows 2000 Support Tools, point to Tools, and then click ADSI Edit.
    2. In the left pane, expand Configuration Container [Domain].
    3. Expand CN=Configuration, DC=DomainName,DC=com.
    4. Expand CN=Services.
    5. Expand CN=Microsoft Exchange.
    6. Expand CN= Organization Name.
    7. Expand CN=Administrative Groups.
    8. Right-click CN= Exchange Server 5.5 Site Name, and then click Delete.
    9. Click OK to confirm the deletion, and then go to step 3 in this section.
  3. In the right pane, right-click the Exchange Server 5.5 SRS object that you want to remove, and then click Delete.

Step 6: Delete all recipient Connection Agreements and public folder Connection Agreements

Use the Active Directory Connector (ADC) to delete all recipient Connection Agreements and public folder Connection Agreements that you created between the Exchange 2000 Server computer and the Exchange Server 5.5 computer.

  1. Click Start, point to Programs, point to Microsoft Exchange, and then click Active Directory Connector.


Note When you perform this step, the default configuration Connection Agreement is removed from the ADC.

  1. In the left pane, click Active Directory Connector(Domain).
  2. In the right pane, remove all recipient Connection Agreements and public folder Connection Agreements.

Step 7: Remove the Active Directory Connector from the domain controller

  1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
  2. In Control Panel, double-click Add/Remove Programs.
  3. In Add/Remove Programs, click Microsoft Active Directory Connector, and then click Change/Remove.
  4. Follow the instructions in the Microsoft Active Directory Connector Setup wizard to remove the Active Directory Connector.

Step 8: Change the Exchange 2000 Server organization object mode from mixed mode to native mode

  1. Click Start, point to Programs, point to Microsoft Exchange, and then click System Manager.
  2. In Exchange System Manager, right-click the Exchange organization object name, and then click Properties.
  3. In the General tab, click Change Mode.
  4. In the Exchange System Manager dialog box, click Yes.
  5. Click OK.
  6. Restart Exchange System Manager.
