SUMMARY

This article describes how to use ADSI Edit to remove an Exchange 5.5 Server-based computer from an Exchange 2000 Server administrative group.

MORE INFORMATION

Use this procedure only in situations where an Exchange 5.5 Server-based computer is not completely removed from an Exchange 2000 Server administrative group. For example, use this procedure if:

• You already removed the Exchange 5.5 Server-based computer from the Exchange 2000 Server administrative group.
• The Config_Ca object no longer appears in the Active Directory Connector Management tool.
• You experience one or more of the following behaviors that may occur when an Exchange 5.5 Server-based computer is not completely removed from an Exchange 2000 Server administrative group:
  • The Exchange 5.5 Server-based computer is still listed in Exchange System Manager.
  • You cannot send or receive Internet e-mail messages.

To remove an Exchange 5.5 Server-based computer from an Exchange 2000 Server administrative group by using ADSI Edit:

1. Click Start, point to Programs, point to Windows 2000 Support Tools, point to Tools, and then click ADSI Edit.
2. Remove the Exchange 5.5 Server computer:
   1. Expand each of the following items:

      Configuration Container
      CN=Configuration, DC=DomainName,DC=com
      CN=Services
      CN=Microsoft Exchange
      CN= OrganizationName
      CN=Administrative Groups
      CN= AdministrativeGroupNameOrExchange5.5SiteName
      CN=Servers

   2. Right-click the Exchange 5.5 Server object, and then click Delete.
   3. Click OK when you are prompted to confirm the deletion.
3. Remove any remaining Exchange Server 5.5 connectors:
   1. Expand each of the following items:

      Configuration Container
      CN=Configuration, DC=DomainName,DC=com
      CN=Services
      CN=Microsoft Exchange
      CN= OrganizationName
      CN=Administrative Groups
      CN= AdministrativeGroupNameOrExchange5.5SiteName
      CN=Routing Groups
      CN=First Routing Groups
      CN=Connections

   2. Remove any Exchange 5.5 Server connectors that appear in the right pane. For example, remove the Internet Mail Service Connector, Microsoft Mail Connector, Lotus cc:Mail connector. To do so, right-click the connector, and then click Delete.
   3. Click OK when you are prompted to confirm the deletion.
4. Click Exit on the Console menu to quit ADSI Edit.

IMPORTANT: Microsoft Outlook Web Access may not work correctly after you follow these steps to remove Exchange 5.5 Server. Although you can use Microsoft Outlook to send and receive mail, you may receive one of the following error messages when you try to use a mailbox by using OWA:

The page cannot be found. The page you are looking for might have been removed, had its named changed or is temporarily unavailable
HTTP 404 Error - File not found

Http: //1.1.401 Unauthorized.
