SUMMARY

Support for the Hewlett-Packard (HP) IIP printer was added to Microsoft Word version 5.00a.

To add support for the HP IIP printer to an existing Bitstream version 2.0 printer driver (PRD) file, a model block for the IIP must be added to the PRD using Word’s MakePRD utility.

Note: This correction has been made the the PRDs in Word version 5.50.

If Word is set up on a hard drive, the Setup program will copy the MakePRD utility to the Word subdirectory. Otherwise, the Word Setup program will not copy the MakePRD utility to the Word Program disk. A working disk must then be made by copying MAKEPRD.EXE and the Bitstream PRD file to a blank formatted disk, as described below:

1. Type “makeprd” (without the quotation marks) from the subdirectory or disk containing the MakePRD utility. When the program prompts you for a printer driver name, type the name of the printer driver to be modified. Be sure to include the .PRD extension. When the program prompts you for a text file, give the same name as the PRD file, but give the file a .DOC extension. Select “T” at the next prompt to have MakePRD convert from PRD to text.
2. After the conversion is complete, type “word” (without the quotation marks) followed by the name of the PRD file without the extension. This causes Word to run and load the text file automatically. If you are running from a dual floppy system, start Word in the normal fashion and load the .DOC file from the working disk that was created.
3. Go to the Search “text:” field and type “IID” (without the quotation marks). This locates the model name field for the IID printer. The goal is to duplicate the model block for the IID printer and customize it for the IIP.
4. Press the RIGHT ARROW key to place the cursor on the paragraph marker following IID. Press F6 to turn on the extended highlight. Use the UP ARROW key to extend the highlight upward and highlight all of the text up to and including the first blank line encountered (the top of the IID model description block).
5. Press DEL to delete the text to the scrap. Before pressing any other key, press the INS key two times to effectively recopy the IID block and make a new block for the IIP.
6. Press the UP ARROW key to go up one line, which should read “ModelName:”. Change the name from IID to IIP.
7. Press the UP ARROW key and move to the line that begins with the field “UnprintableBottom:288”, and change 288 to 240.
8. Press the UP ARROW key and move one line to the field that reads “UnprintableLeft:360”, and change 360 to 440.
9. Press the UP ARROW key and move two lines to the field that reads “DuplexFlag:1”, and change 1 to 0.
10. Locate the word cPMDs: (right below the {M), and change this number from 5 to 6. If you do not make this change, MakePRD will give you the error message “Error in line :79” when you try to convert the text file back to a PRD file.
11. Save the file.
12. Quit Word.
13. Run the MakePRD utility again. When the program prompts for a printer driver name, type a new name for the modified PRD file. Be sure to include the .PRD extension. When the program prompts for a text file, type the name of the PRD file that was just modified (the one with the .DOC extension). Press P at the next prompt to have the MakePRD convert the file from text to a PRD.
14. If Word was set up on a floppy drive system, copy the newly revised PRD file to the disk containing the PRD files that are currently being used.
15. Now that the conversion is complete, run Word and go to the Print Options “printer:” field, press F1, and select the updated driver name. Press the TAB key twice to move to the “model:” field, press F1 to select the IIP, and then press ENTER.
