SUMMARY

A paragraph shading problem occurs with the original versions of Microsoft Word version 5.00 Hewlett-Packard (HP) LaserJet printer drivers. The problem consists of uneven paragraph shading on the HP LaserJet Series II, IID, and 2000. This problem occurs when a paragraph has noninteger line spacing set, or if the paragraph indents cause the shading characters to overlap. The revised printer drivers enable the printers to use vector shading to create an even shade across any paragraph. The revised printer drivers also add support for the LaserJet Series IIP.

The following changes to the printer drivers can be made in the Model Blocks for the LaserJet Series II, LaserJet Series IIP, LaserJet Series IID, and LaserJet 2000 to correct the problem:

1. Added 128 to the value for ColorFlags:.
2. Replaced the value at LineDrawAdjust: with 60. If you are modifying the LaserJet Series II or LaserJet 2000 Model, LineDrawAdjust: should have the value of 40.

These changes can also be obtained by upgrading to Word version 5.00b or later versions, or obtaining the updated drivers from the Micrsoft Download (MSDL) service, or OnLine. The names of the corresponding HP printer drivers have the name DWXHP* (the asterisk represents a number from 0-7, each a different file).
