SUMMARY
In Microsoft Word for MS-DOS version 5.5 or 6.0 macros, you can use the reserved variable “Field” to obtain the contents of the active option in a menu or dialog box.
For example, to obtain the filename displayed in the Save As dialog box, set a macro variable equal to “Field.” The syntax is as follows:
<<Set variable1=field>>
Note: The opening chevron (<<) is created by pressing CTRL+[, and the closing chevron (>>) is created by pressing CTRL+].
The reserved variable “Selection” should be used when the selection is part of the document text. Use the “Field” variable when the active text is part of a dialog box or menu.
