The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Word for Windows versions 1.1 and 1.1a

Summary:

The following information details the steps for exporting a ZSoft Image (PCX) file from Micrografx Designer version 3.01. Although these steps are to be likely similar, they may vary from earlier versions of Designer.

Steps to Export

  1. Select the symbols you want to include in the exported file, or select no symbols to export the entire drawing.

  2. From the File menu, choose the Export command.

  3. Enter a name for the file with no extension.

  4. Highlight the PCX ZSoft Image File export option, choose the Export command, and press ENTER. Designer automatically adds a file extension depending on the output format chosen. The PCX file extension assigned by Designer matches that expected by the Word for Windows graphics filter PCXIMP.FLT.

Default WIN.INI setting for the PCX filter:

    [WWFILTERS] PCX Filter=PCXIMP.FLT,PCX

  5. In the PCX Output Configuration dialog box that follows, select either the Monochrome or Color Format, and specify either the Screen or Printer Device option. Microsoft Word for Windows reads the PCX file regardless of the combination of settings chosen.

More Information:

According to Micrografx, the Device area of the PCX Output Configuration dialog box is designed to allow for the resolution selection of the exported PCX file. If the Screen option is chosen, the image is exported at the resolution of the current display device. If the Printer Device option is chosen, the image is exported at the resolution of the currently selected printer. Selecting the Printer option can result in a more resolute image, however, if the current printer is not a color device, the image exports in monochrome format.

For more information on exporting PCX files from Designer, see the “Micrografx Designer Learning Guide” for Micrografx Designer 3.01.
