SUMMARY

The Project for Windows and Macintosh error message “Duplicate Resource Assignment Not Allowed” occurs when an attempt has been made to import a file that has a resource assigned twice to the same task.

In most cases, when the “Duplicate Resource…” error dialog is displayed, the problem can be corrected by simply choosing OK in the dialog. Project will automatically discard the duplicate resource.

If the error is repeated a large number of times, it may be necessary to find the cause of the problem and correct it at the source. Generally, there are two likely situations:

1. The file has been exported to another application for editing, and the resource assignments have been inadvertently duplicated. In this case, the same application can generally be used to remove the additional assignments.
2. The Resource ID field has been added to the Export table. The Export table is used as the basis for the information exported by Project for Windows when the MPX file is created; it may also be used as the basis for export to any of the file formats supported by Project. To correct the problem, remove the Resource ID field from the Export table definition, then save the file in the MPX format again. Now, when the file is brought back into Project, the resource assignments will be correct.
