PRB: QC 2.5 README.DOC Error: long double Is 10 Bytes, Not 8 PSS ID Number: Q70359 Article last modified on 01-27-1992 PSS database name: S_QuickC

MS-DOS

Summary:

The README.DOC file included with Microsoft QuickC versions 2.5 and QuickC/QuickAssembler version 2.51 reports the following documentation error on page 53 in the “C for Yourself” manual that is shipped with these products:

The fourth paragraph in this section is incorrect. A long double value is the same size as a double. It contains 8 bytes, not 10. It expresses a floating-point number with at least 15 digits of precision, not 19. Table 4.1 on page 49 should also be corrected.

The above information was correct for QuickC version 2.0, but not for version 2.5. A variable of type long double in QuickC version 2.5 consists of 10 bytes and expresses a floating-point number with at least 19 digits of precision. This matches the size of a long double variable compiled with Microsoft Professional C versions 6.0 and later.
