Word 5.50: Network Setup for Video Adapters

PSS ID Number: Q70229 Article last modified on 11-02-1994

MS-DOS

SUMMARY

On page 41 of the Microsoft Word version 5.50 “Getting Started” booklet, the steps to install Word on the network server include some incorrect information concerning video adapters.

On page 41, step 7 reads as follows:

Follow the instructions on the screen to install the Word program files in the Word program directory.

When prompted, select the computer models and video adapters used at the workstations. If you’re not sure at this time, choose All rather than individual models–this makes all models available when you set up the workstations.

The Setup program for Word 5.50 does not prompt for a computer and video type until you run Setup User. When Set Up Network is selected as directed in step 5, the Setup program will automatically copy all of the video files to the network server.

Therefore, step 7 should read as follows:

Follow the instructions on the screen to install the Word program files in the Word program directory.

Setup will automatically install files that provide support for all of the computer models and video adapters supported by Word. The prompt for a specific computer model and video adapter type will occur when “Setup User” is run to install Word on each individual workstation.

For information on how to run Setup User to set up an individual workstation to run Word, refer to pages 42-46 of the Microsoft Word 5.50 “Getting Started” booklet.
