Paragraph Shading Prints Darker at Bottom of Area

SUMMARY
On most printers, Word uses the IBM graphics characters (ASCII 176-178) to print paragraph shading. One line of ASCII shading characters is printed for each line of the shaded area.
If the shaded area does not have a height that is an exact number of lines (for example, 6 lines), the last two lines will overlap, causing a dark line to appear through the bottom of the shaded area. There is no way to resolve this situation, because it is impossible for the printers to print partial characters.
The above problem does not occur with PostScript printers or when using a Hewlett-Packard (HP) LaserJet printer driver dated after 5/89. Word has shading commands specific to these printers built into the program.
