The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Word for MS-DOS versions 5.5, 6.0

SUMMARY

If the “Safe keyboard option for TSRs, 3270 emulators” is selected as the computer type during the Word Setup program, the speed formatting keys normally used to apply superscript (CTRL +) and subscript (CTRL =) character formatting will not work.

To apply superscript and subscript character formatting after you have chosen the “Safe keyboard option…”, do the following:

  1. From the Format menu, choose Character, and select Superscript or Subscript in the Position option box.
  2. Create a simple macro to execute the speed formatting keys for applying Superscript or Subscript character formatting (see below).

MORE INFORMATION

To create a macro for applying superscript formatting in Word 5.50, do the following:

  3. In the Macro Name text box, enter a name for the macro, (for example, “superscript”).
  4. In the Macro Keys text box, enter the CTRL key combination that will be used to format text for superscript, (for example, <Ctrl S>P).
  5. Choose the Define button (press ALT+D).

To apply superscript or subscript character formatting, select the document text and enter the CTRL key combination that you assigned to one of the above macros.
