Connection to CompuServe
A modem and communication software are required to connect to CompuServe. The modem can have a baud rate of either 300/1200 or 2400. CompuServe communication settings are 8 data bits, 1 stop bit, no parity or 7 data bits, 1 stop bit, and even parity.
The telecommunication software is necessary to act as an interface between the computer and CompuServe.
The Software/Data Library includes all of the application notes and printer drivers available for all Microsoft products. After logging on to CompuServe, type
go msl
at the CompuServe ! prompt.
The following menu will appear:

The following is a breakdown of each option.
Option 1-2
Choosing option 1 or 2 prompts for the following:
Enter keywords (e.g. modem) or <CR> for all:
This is a chance to narrow down the search with keywords, such as “HP”, “IBM”, or just “Word”.
It also prompts the following:
Oldest files in days or <CR> for all:
This is a chance to narrow the field to a certain date. Press ENTER to accept the displayed date or type a specific date. As a result, there will be a listing of all files with the specified keyword(s).
The keyword “Word” will result in a listing plus a description of the file contents, one file at a time, such as the listing below. All files are in an archived format:

Option 3
Choosing option 3 will result in a count of the number of files containing the keyword(s). Using “HP” as a keyword example would result in the following information:

Option 4
Choosing option 4 allows for the downloading of files. For example, the filename that was referred to in the above file description can be entered as a file to download (DWXAE0).

After typing the filename, the following menu will appear:
Access Protocol Menu Transfer protocols available -
1 XMODEM 2 CompuServe B+ and original B 3 CompuServe A 4 DC2/DC4 (Capture) 5 YMODEM 6 CompuServe QB (B w/send ahead) 7 Kermit 0 Abort transfer request
After choosing a transfer protocol, the following lines of information will display. These lines of text indicate that CompuServe is ready to download the file, and to set up your computer to receive the file:
Starting XMODEM send.
Please initiate XMODEM receive and press <CR> when the transfer is complete.
CTRL+C will bring up the following menu at any time:
