Word: Missing End-of-Cell Markers in Table

PSS ID Number: Q57830 Article last modified on 03-07-1997

The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Word for the Macintosh versions 4.0, 5.0

SUMMARY

The end-of-cell marker (a round dot) in a Microsoft Word for the Macintosh table does not appear in a cell under the following conditions:

  1. If the left ruler marker has been moved to the left of zero for a left-justified cell, the marker does not show because it is to the left of zero and out of view for that cell. Text entered begins at a negative ruler position and does not appear until the text moves into a positive area of the ruler. However, while the cell may appear to be blank, with no visible cursor or text, it can still be highlighted. Similarly, if the cell is formatted as right justified and the right indent is moved to the right of the end of a cell’s margin, no end-of-cell marker is visible.
  2. Show Paragraphs on the Edit menu is turned off. This removes the end-of-cell markers from the table. In addition, if Show Table Gridlines is also turned off under Preferences on the Edit menu, the table does not show at all.
  3. The cell is completely full of spaces.
