SYMPTOMS

Microsoft Works 2.0 documents may open slowly over a network, especially when compared to other products, such as Microsoft Word or Microsoft Excel.

CAUSE

The reason for this behavior is twofold:

• When you open Works, the entire program must be loaded into memory on the local workstation. Other products can dynamically allocate themselves, loading only necessary portions of the program.

  -and-

• Works loads files by using network commands in an inefficient manner, locking themselves to blocks of memory.
