- Type a name for the bookmark and press ENTER.
- Position the cursor in your document where you want the cross reference to the paragraph to appear.
- Type the code para-num: and the bookmark name.
- Press F3.
Word 5.0
- Select the paragraph you want to reference.
- Choose Format Bookmark.
- Type a name for the bookmark and press ENTER.
- Move the cursor to where you want the cross reference to the paragraph to appear.
- Type the code para-num: and the bookmark name.
- Press F3.
MORE INFORMATION
Word will enclose the code and the bookmark name in parentheses (that is, para-num:paraname). When the document is printed, this code will be replaced with the number of the paragraph the bookmark is in.
The use of an underscore (_) in the para-num: code, instead of the appropriate hyphen (-), returns a 0 (zero) for the paragraph number on the printed page.
Also, make sure that the paragraph is not preceded by a manual page break. The first character of the paragraph must be a number.
