- Microsoft Word for the Macintosh, version 4.0

SUMMARY

If you define a style by example from a paragraph that contains toggle-character formatting (bold, italic, underline, etc.), and you later decide to redefine the style to exclude a toggle format, the paragraph from which the style was originally defined may not reformat as expected.

This problem occurs because the character format was manually applied before the style was first defined. Therefore, manual formatting is recorded in addition to the style formatting.

To remove the manual formatting so that the paragraph is formatted according to the new definition of the style, reapply the style or choose Plain For Style from the Format menu.
