Changing Size of Font in Footnote Reference Marks

The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Word for the Macintosh, versions 3.0 , 3.01, 3.02, 4.0

SUMMARY

To change the size of footnote reference marks in a Word versions 3.0x or 4.00 document, save the file in RTF format. Then search for the code that describes the size of the reference mark and change it to a different point size.

Use the following procedure to change the size of the footnote reference mark in a document:

  1. From the File menu, select Save As.

  2. Click the File Format button.

  3. Select RTF (Interchange Format).

  4. Save the file under a new name.

  5. The new file will appear on the screen with the RTF codes.

  6. From the Utilities menu (Word 4.00) or From the Search menu (Word 3.x), choose Change.

  7. In the Find What dialog box, type the following:

    ??

  8. In the Change To dialog box, type the following:

    (size of font)

    The size of the font is in half points. To change the font size from 10 point to 12 point, type the following codes into the Change dialog box:

    Box Code Point Size — —- ———-

    Find What (for 10 point) Change to (for 12 point)

  9. After all the changes have been made, save the file (the file will be saved as a Text document) and close it.

  10. Open the file.

  11. Word will ask “Interpret RTF?”. Click Yes.

The changes will be made to the footnote reference marks.
