“Access to This File Required” Accessing Files on Server

SUMMARY
Word gives the error message “Access to this file required. Press Y to retry or Q to quit” if a network server is taken down while Word is accessing files from that server.
Two examples are the following:
- If a local copy of Word is accessing a printer driver that resides on a network server and the server is somehow taken down
- If a local copy of Word is accessing document files that reside on a network server and the server is somehow taken down
Microsoft is researching this problem and will post new information as it becomes available.
