WINDOWS

The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Project for Windows, versions 1.0, 3.0, 3.0a, 4.0

SUMMARY

Whenever a foreign file format (anything other than the .MPP format) is brought into Microsoft Project for Windows, the file extension will not show in Project’s title bar.

MORE INFORMATION

Project assumes that if you bring a file with a foreign format (any file created outside of Microsoft Project for Windows), you will want to have it automatically saved in the Project for Windows file format. Therefore, the file extension is not shown because the file will be treated as an .MPP file that has not yet been saved.

The first time the file is saved, it is converted to the Project file format. This feature is designed to prevent the loss of formatting and other special features supported in Project that are removed if saved in any other file format.
