Shut Down in MultiFinder Leaves Word Open

PSS ID Number: Q41558 Article last modified on 03-07-1997

The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Word for the Macintosh versions 4.0, 5.0, and 5.1

SUMMARY

If you remove the Quit command from the File menu in Microsoft Word for the Macintosh, choosing Shut Down from the Special menu in the Finder may leave Word open and not complete the shutdown procedure. This occurs on Macintoshes using MultiFinder or System 7.0.

This problem occurs because the System looks for the Quit command in the File menu in all open applications so it can close them individually. This is to allow each application to use its own Quit mechanism (which displays prompts to save edited documents and so on) before the computer is shut down.
