SUMMARY
Word 4.00 message: “Access to this File Required. Enter Y to Retry or Q to Quit Word”
Word 5.00 message: “Access to this file required. Enter Y to retry or Q to quit and lose changes”
You pressed ESC in response to the message “Enter Y to retry access to <filename>.” Word cannot continue without the file named.
Do one of the following:
- Press Y if you think you’ve corrected the problem by changing or properly inserting a disk.
- If the problem is a physical disk problem or disk error, press Q to quit Word.
This problem may also be caused by a missing TMP file. This can be solved on systems using a hard drive by setting a location for TMP files on the hard drive with the following DOS command
SET TMP=C:<directory>
which sets a directory for TMP file location. This command can be included as part of the AUTOEXEC.BAT file.
