Vertical Tabs in Ruler Don’t Align with Text in Word 4.00

PSS ID Number: Q38453 Article last modified on 11-02-1994

4.00

MS-DOS

SUMMARY

In Word Version 4.00, vertical tabs in the text do not align with the vertical tabs in the ruler when the “measure:” field in the Options menu is set for using P12 or Pt. The vertical lines in the text appear on the screen display at the correct location; when the file is printed, the vertical lines print according to the tabs on the screen. However, the tabs appear incorrectly in the ruler.

To illustrate the problem, set the “measure:” field to P12 or Pt and set Vertical Tab to either 24 in P12, or 144 in Pt. The vertical line in the ruler displays incorrectly at 2.4 inches, while the vertical line on the screen displays correctly at 2 inches.

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem with Version 4.00. This problem was corrected in Word Version 5.00.
