SUMMARY
Microsoft Works 3.0 and 4.0 cannot save documents as text with line breaks, although previous versions of Works have that capability.
RESOLUTION
Microsoft Works 3.0 and 4.0
To save a Microsoft Works version 3.0 or 4.0 Word Processor document as a text file with hard carriage returns at the end of each line, use the following steps:
- From the Edit menu, choose Select All, then select Edit Copy.
- From the File menu, choose New, and create a new Spreadsheet document.
- From the Edit menu, choose Paste. This pastes the text into the spreadsheet.
- From the File menu, choose Save As. Select Text as the format, and give the document a name, then click Save.
After following these steps, you have a text file with carriage returns at the end of each line, which can be opened by many other applications.
Microsoft Works 1.x or 2.0
To save a Microsoft Works version 1.x or 2.0 Word Processor document as a text file with hard carriage returns at the end of every line, use the following steps:
- From the File menu, choose Save As while holding down the OPTION key.
- Select the Export File option, and give the file a name.
- Click Save.
