The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Works for the Macintosh, versions 1.x, 2.0, 3.0 and 4.0

SUMMARY

Microsoft Works 3.0 and 4.0 cannot save documents as text with line breaks, although previous versions of Works have that capability.

RESOLUTION

Microsoft Works 3.0 and 4.0

To save a Microsoft Works version 3.0 or 4.0 Word Processor document as a text file with hard carriage returns at the end of each line, use the following steps:

  1. From the Edit menu, choose Select All, then select Edit Copy.
  2. From the File menu, choose New, and create a new Spreadsheet document.
  3. From the Edit menu, choose Paste. This pastes the text into the spreadsheet.
  4. From the File menu, choose Save As. Select Text as the format, and give the document a name, then click Save.

After following these steps, you have a text file with carriage returns at the end of each line, which can be opened by many other applications.

Microsoft Works 1.x or 2.0

To save a Microsoft Works version 1.x or 2.0 Word Processor document as a text file with hard carriage returns at the end of every line, use the following steps:

  1. From the File menu, choose Save As while holding down the OPTION key.
  2. Select the Export File option, and give the file a name.
  3. Click Save.
