SYMPTOMS

When you sign in to one of the products listed in the "Applies To" section, you may receive an error message that resembles the following:

Microsoft Money has encountered an internal error and needs to close

The details of the Microsoft error report mention the following:

AppName: Iexplore.exe ModName: Myisam05.dll.

CAUSE

This issue may occur if one of the following conditions is true:

  • The local file that is stored on the computer is corrupted.


If the information that appears on the server is correct, the error message indicates that the copy of your portfolio on the hard disk is damaged, or is not communicating correctly with the server.

  • The Money data file is corrupted.
  • The Chart Preferences are corrupted.


RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, use the appropriate method for your situation.

Repair the local file

To repair the local file in Microsoft Money, follow these steps.

Note These steps do not apply to MSN Money.

Microsoft Windows XP or earlier versions

  1. Click Start, and then click Search.
  2. Click All files and folders.
  3. In the All or part of the file name box, type Sample.mny, and then click Search.
  4. In the list of found files, double-click Sample.mny. If Money does not start, there is a problem with the installation of Money. Remove and then reinstall Money.
  5. On the File menu, click Repair Money File, and then click Standard File Repair.
  6. Next to Repair file, click Browse, select your Money data file, and then click Open.
  7. Next to Save as, click Browse, type a file name to save the repaired file, and then click Save.
  8. Click Next two times, and then click Begin repair.
  9. After the file is repaired, click View Log for more information.
  10. Start Money. The sample file should open. On the File menu, click Open, and then open the repaired file.

Windows Vista

  1. Click Start[GRAPHIC: the Start button], type Sample.mny in the Start Search box, and then click Sample.mny in the Files list.


Note If Money does not start, there is a problem with the installation of Money. Remove and then reinstall Money.

  1. On the File menu, click Repair Money File, and then click Standard File Repair.
  2. Next to Repair file, click Browse, select the Money data file, and then click Open.
  3. Next to Save as, click Browse, type a file name to save the repaired file, and then click Save.
  4. Click Next two times, and then click Begin repair.
  5. After the file is repaired, click View Log for more information.
  6. Start Money. The sample file should open. On the File menu, click Open, and then open the repaired file.

Reset chart preferences

If Charting crashes, reset the Chart preferences. To do this, follow these steps:

  1. Under Stocks, click Quote Details.
  2. Type a symbol such as MSFT.
  3. Click the Intraday chart link at the lower-right corner of the fundamental data.


You are taken to Historical Charting. You will no longer receive the error message.

  1. Change the chart preferences, period, and settings as appropriate.

Move or delete the local portfolio data files

If you want to keep the data in the second portfolio that you created, follow these steps.

Microsoft Windows XP or earlier versions

  1. Exit Microsoft Internet Explorer.
  2. Create a new folder on the Microsoft Windows desktop.

    To do this, right-click a blank area of the desktop, point to New, and then click Folder. Name the folder as appropriate.
  3. Click Start, and then click Search.
  4. Click All files and folders.
  5. In the Look in list, click My Computer.
  6. In the All or part of the file name box, type the following text:

    My Portfolio*.*

    This finds the current data file. Click Search.
  7. Select all the files that are found. To do this, click the first file, press and hold SHIFT, and then click the last file.

    Drag the files into the folder that you created in step 2. You can keep these files or delete them.
  8. View your portfolio at MSN Money to download the contents of the portfolio that is stored on the server.

Windows Vista

  1. Exit Microsoft Internet Explorer.
  2. Create a new folder on the Windows Vista desktop.


To do this, right-click a blank area of the desktop, point to New, and then click Folder. Name the folder as appropriate.

  1. Click Start[GRAPHIC: the Start button], type My Portfolio*.* in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER.
  2. In the Search Results window, select all the files that are found. To do this, click the first file, press and hold SHIFT, and then click the last file.


Drag the files to the folder that you created in step 2. You can keep these files, or you can delete them.

  1. View your portfolio at MSN Money to download the contents of the portfolio that is stored on the server.

MSN Money Investing displays the portfolio data. You no longer receive the invalid page fault error message.

You can delete the folder that you created on the desktop, if you do not have to keep old copies of your data files.

Make sure that you regularly back up your portfolio data file.

Move or delete the local screener file

If the Stock or Fund Screener crashes, follow these steps.

Microsoft Windows XP or earlier versions

  1. Exit Internet Explorer.
  2. Create a new folder on the Microsoft Windows desktop. To do this, right-click a blank area of the desktop, point to New, and then click Folder. Name the folder as appropriate.
  3. Click Start, and then click Search.
  4. Click All files and folders.
  5. In the Look in list, click My Computer.
  6. In the All or part of the file name box type the following:

    invquery.dat*

    This finds the current data file.
  7. Click Search.
  8. Select all the files that are found. To do this, follow these steps:
    1. Click the first file.
    2. Press and then hold SHIFT.
    3. Click the last file.
    4. Drag the files into the folder that you created in step 2.
    You can keep these files or delete them.
  9. View the screener at MSN Money to automatically download the default searches into a new invquery.dat file.

    Note You must re-create your customized searches. Or, import your customized searches if you have previously exported them as separate .iff files.

Windows Vista

  1. Exit Internet Explorer.
  2. Create a new folder on the Windows vista desktop. To do this, right-click a blank area of the desktop, point to New, and then click Folder. Name the folder as appropriate.
