  • Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 Standard Edition
  • Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server Standard Edition

This article was previously published under Q256871

SYMPTOMS

If you use the Move Server Wizard to move a server from or into a mixed Microsoft Exchange 2000 and Microsoft Exchange Server 5.5 environment, it may cause objects not to synchronize with Active Directory.

CAUSE

The Move Server Wizard issues a delete command for objects that it moves. If these objects synchronize with Active Directory by means of the Active Directory Connector (ADC), the objects moved to another site in the same organization may not be picked up throughout replication as they are considered to no longer exist because they have been deleted.

WORKAROUND

If this behavior occurs, see the following Microsoft Knowledge Base article for additional information:

255689 Moved server that has its objects replicated by the Active Directory Connector doesn't synchronize with Active Directory

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Exchange 2000 Server.

MORE INFORMATION

Using the Move Server Wizard as described in the "Symptoms" section is not supported.
