XWEB: Ambiguous HTTP Error Message When You Post a Message to a Folder

Article ID: 256355

Article Last Modified on 2/21/2007

APPLIES TO

  • Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server Standard Edition

This article was previously published under Q256355

SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to post a message to a folder in which you have only "Read Items" permissions and you are using Outlook Web Access (OWA) with Microsoft Internet Explorer 5, you may receive the following error message:

HTTP 403 (Forbidden) You are not authorized to view this page

This error message may cause confusion because it is a standard Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP) error message and not an Exchange Server-specific error message.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

MORE INFORMATION

This error message is correct for a user who has only "Read Items" permissions in the folder.
