Novice: Requires knowledge of the user interface on single-user computers.

This article applies only to a Microsoft Access database (.mdb).

When you try to link a password-protected Paradox file from an Access 2000 database by using the Paradox ISAM, you may receive one of the following errors:

Unexpected error from external database driver (10498).

Invalid Index Definition, so delete the files ending in .yg*, .xg*, and .val.

To resolve this issue, either obtain the "ParadoxFile" ODBC driver version from Intersolve, or obtain the latest Jet 4.0 service pack from the Microsoft Download Center.

For additional information about how to obtain the latest Microsoft Jet 4.0 service pack, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

In earlier versions of Microsoft Access, a prompt for the password on the Paradox file was displayed, and the file could be successfully linked.

The third-party products that are discussed in this article are manufactured by companies that are independent of Microsoft. Microsoft makes no warranty, implied or otherwise, regarding the performance or reliability of these products.
