SYMPTOMS

If you attempt to format a disk and copy the Windows Millennium Edition (Me) system files by using the format /s command, you receive the following error message:

Microsoft Windows no longer supports the format /s command. To create a Startup disk, click the Add/Remove Programs icon in Control Panel.
Format terminated.

CAUSE

The /s switch is not supported with the format command in Windows Me.

RESOLUTION

To create a Windows Me Startup (or boot) disk:

  1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
  2. Double-click the Add/Remove Programs icon.
  3. Click the Startup Disk tab.
  4. Click Create Disk.


STATUS

This behavior is by design.
