You receive a "Powerpnt.exe is not a valid Win32 application" error message when you double-the Powerpnt.exe file on the Office 2000 Small Business Edition CD

Article ID: 251032

Article Last Modified on 1/27/2007

APPLIES TO

  • Microsoft PowerPoint 2000 Standard Edition
  • Microsoft Office 2000 Small Business Edition

This article was previously published under Q251032

SYMPTOMS

If you double-click the Powerpnt.exe file on the Office 2000 Small Business Edition CD, you may receive the following error message:

\PFILES\MSOFFICE\OFFICE\powerpnt.exe is not a valid Win32 application

CAUSE

This error message occurs because PowerPoint 2000 is not included with Office 2000 Small Business Edition. The Powerpnt.exe file on the CD-ROM, which is only 1 kilobyte (KB) in size, is a placeholder for the Windows Installer script and is not the actual program file.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
