SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to add a Web page to your Favorites and then make the Web page available for offline viewing, you may receive the following error message:

Errors occurred while Windows was synchronizing your data.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur when you attempt to make a Web page available for offline viewing but the Web page requires authentication.

WORKAROUND

To work around this issue, modify the properties of the Favorite to provide the user name and password required by the Web page.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

MORE INFORMATION

When you visit the Web page to make it available for offline viewing, the contents of the Web page are downloaded to your cache. The Web page should be available for offline viewing until you empty your cache.

To configure the offline settings to prevent the error during future synchronizations, click Customize in the Add Favorite dialog box when you add the Web page to your Favorites, or modify the offline settings after you add the Web page to your Favorites.

Note: The authentication information is not configured for the offline settings by default.
