SYMPTOMS

After you delete messages from the "Deleted Items.mbx" file in Internet Mail and News, the file may remain the same size. For example, if the current file size is 5 MB and you delete all entries, the file size may still be 5 MB.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs because Internet Mail and News does not completely remove the e-mail message from the folder.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue:

  1. Start Internet Mail.
  2. Click File, point to Folder, point to Compact, and then click All Folders.

NOTE: Any files that have been deleted from the Deleted Items.mbx file are removed.

If you perform these steps and the file size is still not reset, quit Internet Mail, delete the "Deleted Items.mbx" file, and then restart Internet Mail. The "Deleted Items.mbx" file is re-created when Internet Mail is restarted.
