Last reviewed: October 24, 1997
Article ID: Q175631
The information in this article applies to:
- The Microsoft Network, version 2.5
SYMPTOMS
After you disconnect from MSN, The Microsoft Network, the MSN Sign-In screen may prompt you to type your MSN user name and password.
CAUSE
This behavior can occur if MSN is configured as your default Internet connection and you are running a program that uses the Internet.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this behavior, use either of the following methods. If you do not want to remain connected to the Internet, use method 1. If you want to remain connected to the Internet with a connection other than MSN, use method 2.
Method 1
Quit all Internet-based programs that are running on your computer.
Method 2
Do not use MSN for all of your Dial-Up Networking Internet access. To do so, follow these steps:
- Right-click the The Microsoft Network icon on the desktop, and then click Connection Settings.
- On the Options tab, click the "Use this service for all dial-up Internet access" check box to clear it.
- Click OK.
