SYMPTOMS
When trying to start Microsoft Camcorder, the following error message may appear: This program has made an invalid dynamic call to a dll.
CAUSE
This problem occurs because some video display drivers that are written for Microsoft Windows 3.1 add support for Display Control Interface (DCI) support; this conflicts with DCI support that is provided by Microsoft Windows 95.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
MORE INFORMATION
DCI allows Video for Windows to provide faster and smoother playback of video on video adapters that use the S3, Cirrus Logic, or any one of several other chip sets. Video for Windows now supports all DCI-enabled video adapters. The performance of stretched and clipped videos is also improved for all video adapters.
For information about this problem with Audio Video Interleaved (.avi) files, please see the following article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
