APPLIES TO

This article was previously published under Q123484

SYMPTOMS

When you try to choose Special Papers from the Page menu, Publisher may generate the following error message:

No Papers Available.

You do not have any paper images available. Please run the setup program to reinstall the images.

This error may occur even though the Publisher PAPERS subdirectory

C:\MSPUB\PAPERS for Publisher 2.0 and 2.0a
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Publisher\Papers for Publisher 3.0 and 97

contains the sample files.

CAUSE

Publisher displays this error message when it cannot find a valid PAPERS.INI file within the PAPERS subdirectory. The file may be missing or corrupt.

RESOLUTION

To correct this problem, follow these steps:

Publisher 2.0 or 2.0a

  1. Delete the existing PAPERS.INI file from the Publisher PAPERS subdirectory.
  2. Insert the Publisher Setup Disk #1 in the floppy disk drive.
  3. From the File menu, choose Run. In the Command Line box, type the following and choose OK:

    a:setup.exe

If the Setup disk is in a different drive than drive A, substitute that drive letter for "a:".
  4. Choose Custom Installation.
  5. Select Templates to generate the new PAPERS.INI file.

Publisher 3.0 or 97

  1. Delete the existing PAPERS.INI file from the Publisher PAPERS subdirectory.
  2. Insert the Publisher Setup Disk #1 or insert the CD.
  3. Click Start, Settings, Control Panel, Double click Add/Remove programs
  4. On the Install/Uninstall tab, Choose Microsoft Publisher and click Add/Remove. Click the reinstall button. This should re-create the PAPERS.INI file
