"Not Enough Memory" Message When Opening TIFF GraphicLast reviewed: August 4, 1997 |
5.00 5.10 MACINTOSH kbgraphic The information in this article applies to:
SYMPTOMWhen using the Insert Picture command to convert a TIFF graphic, you receive the error message "Not enough memory to complete operation." CAUSEThis error message means that Word needs a higher memory allocation to convert the graphic. STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Word for the Macintosh versions 5.0, 5.1. This problem was corrected in Word for the Macintosh version 6.0. RESOLUTIONBoost Word's memory allocation as follows: System 7 and System 6 MultiFinderIf you run System 7 or System 6 MultiFinder, increase the memory allocation to Word by following these steps:
System 6 Finder OnlyIf you use System 6 with Finder, you may find that you simply do not have enough memory to open the TIFF file. Minimize the amount of memory that the System consumes for best results. For more information, query in the Microsoft Knowledge Base on: prior and memory and accessory MORE INFORMATIONAs an example of how boosting Word's memory allocation can help, in one test, increasing Word's allocation to 3048K enabled Word to convert a 700K TIFF file. Note: In the Finder, a compressed TIFF file will appear to be smaller than it actually is. When Word tries to open a TIFF file, Word works with the uncompressed size. |
