PSS ID Number: Q110925 Article last modified on 02-03-1994

3.11 WINDOWS

The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Windows for Workgroups version 3.11

This article contains information about using Windows for Workgroups with a third-party product that has not been tested and is not supported by Microsoft.

SUMMARY

To use the GVC 16-bit Ethernet cards with Windows for Workgroups version 3.11, you may need to upgrade to latest GVC NDIS 2.0 driver, which is dated 11/23/93. If you are using a previously released driver, you may experience various problems, including inability to see other machines across the network in Windows for Workgroups even though you can see them from the MS-DOS command prompt.

MORE INFORMATION

GVC has several NIC2000 models and one NIC2003 model that can use its new NDIS driver in Windows. If you are using Windows for Workgroups 3.10, GVC recommends using the NE2000 compatible driver; however, this driver does not work with Windows for Workgroups 3.11. The new GVC driver handles issues with the upper memory block (UMB) that have surfaced since the release of MS-DOS 6.0 and Windows for Workgroups 3.11. You can downloaded the new driver from the GVC bulletin board service at (201) 579-2380. The name of the driver is NIC2000.DOS and is dated 11/23/93.

The GVC Ethernet Netcard is manufactured by GVC, a vendor independent of Microsoft; we make no warranty, implied or otherwise, regarding these products’ performance or reliability.
