This article assumes that you are familiar with the programming language that is being demonstrated and with the tools that are used to create and to debug procedures. Microsoft support engineers can help explain the functionality of a particular procedure, but they will not modify these examples to provide added functionality or construct procedures to meet your specific requirements. The following Visual Basic procedure uses the active cell, asks for the number to be added to the existing cell's value, and places the result back into the active cell:
Sub AddToCell() 'ActiveCell.Value places the value or formula into the active cell 'on the active worksheet. ' 'ActiveCell.Value returns the value in the active cell of the active 'window. ' 'InputBox calls up the Excel input box for you to type in the number 'to be added to the original value. Val takes the text string 'returned from the input box and turns it into a number. ActiveCell.Value = ActiveCell.Value + _ Val(InputBox("Enter a Number", default:=1)) End Sub
