SYMPTOMSWhen you are attempting to run the Extended (32-bit) version of FoxPro for MS-DOS (FOXPROX.EXE), the "Insufficient memory" error message appears as FoxPro is attempting to load, even though the computer has enough RAM to run the Extended version of FoxPro.
CAUSESMARTDrive is loaded in the AUTOEXEC.BAT file. SMARTDrive takes a certain amount of extended memory and reserves it for caching. FoxPro for MS-DOS cannot make use of that cached memory when attempting to start up. For example, if a computer has 4 MB of RAM and SMARTDrive is loaded, the Extended version of FoxPro for MS-DOS cannot run.
RESOLUTIONRemove SMARTDrive from memory or restrict it to only a small amount of extended memory.
