XL: Print Area and Print Titles Boxes Empty in Print Preview

The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Excel for Windows 95, version 7.0
- Microsoft Excel for Windows, versions 5.0, 5.0c
- Microsoft Excel for the Macintosh, versions 5.0, 5.0a
SYMPTOMS
In Microsoft Excel versions 5.0 and 7.0, if you are in print preview and you click the Setup button, the Print Area and Print Titles boxes on the Sheet tab of the Page Setup dialog box are empty. In addition, you are unable to edit the settings.
To verify the ranges for print area and print titles, exit print preview and on the File menu, click Page Setup. The definitions will then be visible in the Page Setup dialog box.
WORKAROUND
To view the Print Title and Print Area settings using the following steps:
- On the File menu, click Page Setup.
- In the Page Setup dialog box, click the Sheet tab.
You are now able to view these Print options.

Steps to Reproduce the Problem
In a new worksheet, type the following values:
A1: Column A B1: Column B C1: AA D1: BB A2: Column A B2: Column B C2: CC D2: DD A3: Column A B3: Column B C3: EE D3: FF
- On the File menu, click Page Setup.
- Click the Sheet tab.
- In the Print Area box, enter the range $C$1:$D$3.
- In the Columns To Repeat At Left box, enter the range $A:$B, and click OK.
- On the File menu, click Print Preview.
- In print preview, click the Setup button.
When you click the Sheet tab in the Page Setup dialog box, the Print Area box, the Rows To Repeat At Top box, and the Columns To Repeat At Left box are empty, and you are unable to type information in these boxes.
