OK and Cancel Buttons in Find File Error Msg Box Do Same Thing

Article ID: Q105704
Creation Date: 22-OCT-1993
Revision Date: 10-SEP-1996 The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Word for Windows, version 6.0

SYMPTOMS

If you try to copy a file to the same location where it is currently located using the Find File command on the File menu, the following error message occurs in Word for Windows:

Word cannot copy a file to itself. <path>\<filename>

The error dialog box contains three buttons: OK, Cancel, and Help. Word appears to cancel the Find File operation whether you choose OK or Cancel. RESOLUTION

Word actually does different things when you choose OK versus Cancel, depending on the selection in the File Find File dialog box.

If one file is selected, Word cancels the Find File operation if you choose OK or Cancel. If multiple files are selected, Word cancels the Find File operation for one file at a time when you choose OK. If you choose Cancel, Word cancels the entire Find File operation for all selected files.

SOME STATES DO NOT ALLOW THE EXCLUSION OR LIMITATION OF LIABILITY FOR CONSEQUENTIAL OR INCIDENTAL DAMAGES SO THE FOREGOING LIMITATION MAY NOT APPLY.
