SYMPTOMS
Page 393 of the Windows NT "System Guide" and page 491 of the Windows NT Advanced Server "System Guide" incorrectly state that you can back up files using a wildcard for a specific directory. The example given is the following:
NTBACKUP BACKUP C:\MYDIR\*.BAT
CAUSE
If you attempt to use the example above to back up all files with the .BAT extension, or attempt to use the wildcard approach to backing up files, you will receive the following error message:
RESOLUTION
Information received from Conner Software indicates that support for backing up individual files and/or using wildcard strings for backing up files is not supported from the command line.
To back up individual files, you must use the NT Backup GUI interface application.
