Password with Extended Characters Fails When Using NET Command |

The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Windows NT Server version 3.1
- Microsoft Windows NT Workstation version 3.1
- Microsoft Windows NT Advanced Server, version 3.1
SYMPTOMS
Try to connect to a share on an OS/2 or Windows for Workgroups computer. Use the NET command and let it prompt you for a password. If the password has any extended characters, you are not able to gain access to the share.
CAUSE
The NET command destroys ALT key sequences.
RESOLUTION
Enter the password on the NET command line, using the ALT key for extended characters.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Windows NT version 3.1. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
